Position Summary:
The Program Specialist 2 is a full-time, classified position at South Seattle College. The main functionality of this position is to manage the file exchanges with the Department of Education, federal and state Work Study, act as the Financial Aid liaison with the Promise Scholarship Team, and review and award financial aid. This position will work with students and the public in person, on the phone, over email, and through text messaging to help foster understanding of the financial aid application process. This position requires a detailed understanding of Financial Aid regulations, policies, and procedures and is not an entry level position.

Essential Functions:

•Reviews Financial Aid Applications for eligibility criteria and awarding through mastery of Federal, State, and Institutional financial aid regulations.

•Awards and adjusts Federal, State, and Institutional Financial Aid funding by following all regulations and policies.

•Sends, loads and processes federal and state files through EdConnect on a routine and adhoc.

•Per policy and procedure, maintains ISIR and WASFA corrections.

•Reviews all secondary ISIR transactions for changes, and critically thinks through issues to route the file appropriately.

•Primary contact for financial literacy efforts on campus, including student presentations, outreach, and one on one assistance.

•Primary contact for the Promise Scholarship Program, including all students in the program.

•Responsible for awarding, updating records, and reconciliation of program funding.

•Responsible for the Federal and State Work Study programs, including job posting, evaluation of eligibility, referrals, approving payroll paper work, student and employer training and compliance, and awarding, updating, and reconciliation of funds.

•Maintains the Financial Aid filing system, and ensures files are routed properly.

•Assists in the processing of Direct Loans by following federal regulations; including determining eligibility, processing forms, and awarding funds.

•Meets directly with stakeholders on a variety of issues related to financial aid and uses critical thinking skills to interpret federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures to assist the individual through the financial aid and college process.

•Assists stakeholders in scheduling appointments through the QLess system.

•Seek out and take advantage of appropriate professional development activities.

•Actively participate in all cross training of financial aid related functions.

•All other duties as assigned.

•Associates Degree with the intention of completing a BA within 3 years of employment with South •Minimum 1 year of direct Financial Aid experience in federal Title IV aid programs
