Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Counsels prospective and continuing students (individual appointments, telephone and email) on the financial aid process at NU.

2.Awards and verifies student records in compliance with federal, state and institutional requirements.

3.Assists students in the application process for financial aid by helping them to complete appropriate and required forms; by advising them of their rights and responsibilities concerning financial aid; and by providing them with information about the status of their financial aid applications.

4.Resolves conflicting information between student applications and federal tax returns in compliance with federal requirements.

5.Counsel’s prospective and continuing students on payment plan arrangements and past due balances.

6.Prepares and executes the financial aid portion of registration events for Graduate and Adult Evening student programs (often evening events).

7.Is an active participant in interdepartmental meetings, Student Financial Services staff meetings and training opportunities on campus.

8.Participates in financial aid training activities off-campus and/or online as deemed appropriate by the director.

9.Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

1.One to three years of Financial Aid experience is preferred and a Bachelor’s degree is required.

2.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and through writing, with staff, students and prospective students using tact, courtesy, good judgment, confidentiality and occasional humor.

3.Demonstrates organizational skills.

4.Demonstrates a strong attention to detail.

5.Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, flexible, ability to multi-task and be interruptible.

6.Demonstrates strong math skills.

7.Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.

8.Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
