Description:
The Financial Aid Counselor, Scholarship Programs, is a professional, administrative exempt position that focuses on counseling prospective and current students regarding scholarship programs managed by the Financial Aid Department. The position provides scholarship administration for private, public and tribal organizations along with institutional and state scholarship programs. As a Financial Aid Counselor, this position also provides counseling to students, parents, faculty, high school counselors and others regarding financial aid eligibility, application procedures, student budget development, and debt management. This position reviews files, awards financial aid, makes financial aid presentations, and counsels students on a drop-in or appointment basis, and makes informed and well-documented professional judgment decisions. In addition, this position may be assigned special projects and/or program responsibilities based on operational necessity and individual experience and skills. In addition to this opening for a Financial Aid Counselor with scholarship administrative responsibilities, the department is also currently recruiting for an entry-level Financial Aid Counselor. Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree

- Minimum one year of student financial aid office experience

- In accordance with Federal regulatory requirements, the incumbent must be in good standing on any outstanding Federal Title IV loans

- Demonstrated public speaking experience

- Work experience demonstrating attention to detail

- Demonstrated ability to efficiently organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently within a highly computerized environment

- Demonstrated ability to effectively provide services to diverse populations

- Demonstrated ability to obtain, analyze and evaluate data

- Demonstrated ability to apply and adhere to complex regulations

- Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to a team-oriented environment

- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Professional work experience with a scholarship program including office support, customer service, or funds management

- Experience using Ellucian Banner Financial Aid software

- Experience working with document imaging software

- Work history that demonstrates an innovated approach to quality improvement or problem-solving
