Job Summary The Financial Aid Program Specialist 2 works in the Financial Aid Office and Student Central under general direction and reports to the Associate Director of Financial Aid. This position provides information and assistance related to the resolution of residency issues, and transferring credits from other institutions, and uses independent judgment to interpret and evaluate data submitted for financial aid. Additionally, the Program Specialist 2 independently collaborates with students and other staff to resolve issues and difficulties across all areas within Student Central. Essential to this position is the ability to fully understand and perform the work of the areas that make up Student Central, and to provide technical assistance with the financial aid application process, and functions related to registering for classes. The work is complex in nature, and requires an ability to work in accordance of federal, state and college rules, and policies. This position is overtime eligible. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Financial Aid Office in collaboration with Student Central support the mission of Bellevue College by providing high quality, flexible and accessible services, which support student access to educational opportunities that advance pluralism, inclusion, and global awareness. Student Central provides complex comprehensive and confidential service and information for programs identified as Enrollment Services, Evaluations and Graduation, and Financial Aid. Services include; providing information and access to functions related to transfer and evaluation of credits, graduation, prior learning credit, residency application processes, registration and all other enrollment functions, in addition to financial aid application processes required to award funds needed to pay for college. Essential Functions/Typical Duties Organize and Coordinate Services and Tasks Located in Student Central Fully understand and perform the work of all areas that make up Student Central. Provide technical assistance with processes related to registration, applying for financial aid, credit reviews, residency applications, and applying for graduation. Coordinate and collaborate with departments that provide support services that assist students in overcoming obstacles and problems they encounter. Problem solve by providing a variety of options to students based on individual needs regarding registration issues, payment and refunds, credit reviews, graduation, and financial aid. Independently advise students, and problem solve by providing a variety of options to students based on individual needs and circumstances regarding registration issues, payment and refunds, credit reviews, graduation, and financial aid. Attend weekly training and Student Central meetings and provide suggestions for continuous improvement and efficient use of resources needed to improve service to students, student success, retention, and completion efforts. Refer student problems that require exceptions to state or federal regulations to the Associate Director or Director. Perform, Organize, and Coordinate Operations for Financial Aid Serve on the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Committee and perform tasks related to the appeal process on a rotating basis as needed. Properly document and record student information, submission of documentation, and provide summary of actions taken towards resolution of problems in the Student Management System (SMS), and the Financial Aid Management System (FAM). Communicate with students by drafting letters that provide information to students regarding missing, or incomplete documentation, or the need for additional documentation. Obtain certifications from NASFAA (National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators), as requested or needed to fulfill job requirements. Monitor, order and maintain office supplies and forms. Participate in training student and part-time hourly employees. Analyze and Evaluate Documentation to Determine Financial Aid File Completion, and to Perform Preliminary File Review Collect, analyze and evaluate financial aid documents needed to determine completion of financial aid requirements. Through evaluation of documentation, perform tasks related to preliminary steps needed to award financial aid funds as directed and needed. Read & Interpret Federal and State Regulations Read and interpret federal and state regulations as they relate to financial aid application processes, and use independent judgment to advise students appropriately based on student specific circumstances. Attend conferences and workshops needed. Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree or Associate Degree with equivalent education/experience. Two years' full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience working directly with customers or students in an advisory capacity, and performing functions requiring accuracy, and attention to detail. One or more years' full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience, working in a higher education setting One-year experience and demonstrated ability to work in accordance of policies, procedures and federal and state regulations. Experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees and student/customer groups. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Note: We use application materials to evaluate written communication skills. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to use computers for data entry, web applications, searching the internet, and troubleshooting basic computer issues. Desired Qualifications: One year experience working in a Washington State Community and Technical College setting in an office related to entry services, financial aid, finance, or other related field as a full-time employee, or equivalent experience as a part-time employee. Experience with database systems and federal databases and programs such as NSLDS, COD, and CPS Online.
