Description: The Student Loan Advocate is a newly created position and the successful candidate will help shape this role. The Advocate provides leadership for the protection and support of student loan borrowers and is responsible for implementation of applicable sections of the Student Loan Bill of Rights, SB 6029. The Advocate collaborates with other state agencies to design and implement effective processes for reporting and resolving student complaints. The position also analyzes laws and policies related to student loans and provides recommendations for solutions. The Advocate will produce relevant and helpful information to the public about student loans and will develop a course that includes comprehensive information about the rights and responsibilities of student loan borrowers. This position reports to the Director of Consumer Protection.

 Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * A commitment to honor equity, diversity, and inclusion. * Demonstrated knowledge of higher education and student education loans. * Ability to identify problems and resolve conflicts. * Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a broad array of teams and partners. * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse groups of stakeholders including preparation of published reports and delivery of professional presentations to various audiences. * Ability to develop and present course materials to a broad audience. * Understanding of policy research methods and an analytical and inquisitive nature. * Ability to work independently and use good judgment in evaluating issues and making decisions. * Strong project management skills. * Ability to flourish in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment. Education and Experience Required: * Bachelor's degree and five or more years of experience in student financial aid, higher education administration, education policy, law, dispute resolution, or a related administrative position. * Broad experience working with students and professionals from diverse backgrounds. * Experience facilitating resolution of complaints in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner. * Experience analyzing policy issues, summarizing complex information and reports, and communicating with policy makers.
